Our History

Charlotte Fire and Rescue Services, Inc. (CVFRS) is a private, not-for-profit corporation whose mission is to provide fire protection and emergency medical services to the Town of Charlotte and surrounding communities as requested.

The corporation is governed by a Board of Directors elected by the members in good standing from the volunteer body and paid staff who meet defined length of service and shift criteria.  The public safety mission of the corporation is pursued through the operations of its two agencies, Charlotte Volunteer Fire Department and Charlotte Volunteer Rescue Squad.

Since its founding in 1950 CVFRS has received the majority of its funding through the generous support of the Town of Charlotte.  In addition, private gifts over the years have enabled the corporation to have additional, non-public revenues to support its operations.  These so-called “special” funds significantly enhance the ability of CVFRS to perform its public safety mission and reduce the costs of operation to the Town of Charlotte.
