Here is some basic information that may help you in the process of deciding if you would like to join Charlotte Volunteer Rescue Squad (CVRS).
What time commitment is needed to be a member of Charlotte Rescue? Rescue volunteers are requested to: - Run a minimum of 48 hours per month
- Attend the monthly business meeting (1st Tuesday of the month)
- Attend one 2 hour training session (2nd Tuesday of the month)
What constitues a duty shift? Typically a shift runs from either 7AM - 7PM and 7PM - 7AM, there are times when people are scheduled for only part of a shift due to other commitments. Do I have to remain at the station when on duty? No. Individuals are welcome to run errands while on duty, they are required to stay in the "service area" while on duty. How many people are on a crew, and what are their jobs and training? Typically there are 3 individuals on a crew. They consist of a crew chief, a drive, and an attendant. Crew Chief: Minimum training: EMT - Basic - Directs the call
- Oversees patient care
Driver: Minimum training CPR and has completed the CVRS driver training program - Transports us SAFELY
- Assists with equipment at the scene
Attendant: Minimum training ECA I'd like to volunteer. How do I get started? Complete the "New Member Application" and submit it to the Membership Chairperson. Once y our application has been received, you will be invited to attend a business meeting where you will be introduced to the squad. Upon completion of a reference and driver license check, you will be interviewed and invited to the next business meeting where the squad will vote on whether to accept you as a probationary member. If you are approved, you will be given protective clothing to wear on calls and instruction on your duties and responsibilities as a new member. Rescue members must supply their own footwear that is impervious to liquids and sharp objects and provides ankle protection (i.e., leather work boots). We will provide training in CPR. We will also provide the opportunity for you to take driver training, First Responder course (ECA) or EMT training. I don't want to do rescue work, but would be willing to help with special projects. Do you have a place for me? YES! You can be a contract member. We need people to assist with developing community education and CPR training programs, bike or ski helmet distributions, 911 signs distribution, fund-raising, and help with our participation in special community events like parades and booths at town meeting day. I'm not sure I'm ready to sign up yet. Who can I talk to about Charlotte Rescue? Give the station a call at 425-3111 and we will glady have one of the membership committee members contact you. We will give you a tour of our facilities and apparatus and introduce you to other members. |
